My mommie’s recount I:I had has been feeling contractions since morning and was worried whether my deardear is coming out soon to meet us ( yippee!!! >.< ), so I called the nurse at KKH Dial-A-Nurse. She asked me whether my water bag broke and I told her no. Next, she asked me how frequent were the contractions and I told her about 20-mins apart, lasting 10-15secs each. The nurse told me to continue monitoring and to go to hospital when the contractions where 10-mins apart. So, I followed nurse auntie’s advice to monitor the contractions. Noontime, i was bored at home so told alan that I want to go out. We went to causeway point and had lunch at crystal jade bcos I wanted to eat dim sum one more time before I deliver because afterwhich I won’t be able to eat dim sum for 1 month ( heehee.. poor mommie… ).

My mommie’s recount II: I was awakened by a sharp, sudden contraction around 4.30am. Started to time the contractions, 10-mins apart !!! Thinking of the long day to come, I didn’t want to wake alan and so, went to sit in the living room. At 6am, seems like the contractions is getting stronger, so I went to wake alan, and told him today is THE day! We will be meeting our little precious (erhhmmmm… tt’s me) soon J… Alan was so kan cheong, immediately sit up and sat ok, let’s go… I laughed n said, not so fast, u still hvn’t brushed teeth and change clothes…

Alan asked me whether the contractions were painful. I said no, it’s like those minor menstrual cramps that come n go. Inside my mind, I was thinking if contractions are like this, I should be able to tahan without epidural. How wrong I was. Anyway, since the contractions weren’t a bother, I told alan I wanted to have breakfast. We went to Yew Tee foodcourt and I had chee cheong fun n milo, while alan had kaya toast n coffee.

After breakfast, alan drove to KKH, and we went to the delivery suite to register. The nurse there told us to go into a room where my gynae, Dr John Tee, will examine whether I m going into labour or not. So, we waited in the room. I was hooked to a machine which shows the contractions. Guess it was still too early on a Sunday, bcos we almost 1hr for dr tee to come.

Dr Tee examined me and confirmed I was in labour and already dilated 3cm (hoo hoo!!! ). Immediately, doc told the nurses to bring me to the delivery suite.

Inside the delivery suite, mommie was again hooked up to a machine that shows the contractions and also, another drip which dr tee said was called “oxytocin” and it is supposed to help contractions along. Before dr tee left at 9.30am, he told me that I will probably be out at 3pm (hmmm…. Uncle, will I take so long? I am very eager to see my daddie n mommie… nevermind, I will try my best to come out as early as I can, so that I can meet my daddie n mommie >.< ). Since there was still quite some time to go, at around 10am, I told alan to go out n walk walk since he looked kinda bored in the delivery suite. So, he went out n I was left alone. However, not long after he went out, the contractions started getting painful. I didn’t want to be alone then, so called alan on his mobile and told him to come back. It was 10.30am. By 11am, the contractions were getting too painful. My pelvis is so painful that I felt like I m going to break me into 2 parts. Tears were falling down from my eyes as I kept bearing with the pain. Alan was holding my hands, n trying to comfort me (mommie, mommie, … I m sorry u r in so much pain bcos of me, I will be a good girl. I love u… ). The nurse came in to check on me and I told her my contractions r very painful. She looked at the machine and told me my contractions are coming along very fast and possibly I don’t need the oxytocin, so turned off the drip. I can’t take the pain anymore, so told the nurse that I wanted to take the epidural. She said she needed to check my dilation first. If I m too far along, then won’t be able to take the epidural. So, she checked and told me 4cm dilated. Oh my gosh! 2hrs and suffering so much pain, only 1cm dilated since the last check! Gimme the epidural!!! By 11.45am, the epidural was given and I relaxed abit. But at 11.55am, i started to feel pain coming from my pelvis again, initially thot it was imaginary due to too intense pain just now… but, no, the pain is coming on steadily, i told alan that I m feeling pain at the left side of her pelvis, alan quickly called the nurse in. The nurse was surprised and told me that I might be coming out soon (hooray!!!). The nurse then went on to check me and told me dilation was 9cm. she was caught off-guard, told me she going to call dr tee. For the next 5mins, the nurse was zooming in and out of the delivery suite, carrying stuff, pushing machines in… wow! I didn’t know there’s so many things that has to be done when going into active labour. By 12.10pm – the nurse said can see my baby’s head crowning already and told me to start pushing. If dr tee cannot make it in time, she will deliver the baby. When I heard this, I was like “are u sure??? Dr tee, where r u??? better get ur butt here soon! U gotta deliver my baby!!! I didn’t want to start pushing yet, but the contractions were coming on so fiercely that I had no choice but to start pushing. By 12.20pm, dr tee came ( phew! ). After a few more pushes, my precious darling was out at 12.52pm (yay!!!)…
