When shit happens at work (a.k.a "being backstabbed"), I'd like to think "how nice it'd be to just quit my job n be a SAHM?".
.
.
.
But then, after 2secs (yep, tt's all it takes!), i'd tell myself again "yeah, sure... u'd go crazy in a week. max 2 weeks!"
.
.
.
And so here I m, blogging abt it on a Friday afternoon, at 4pm...
I'm still thinking abt whether to rehash the whole episodes (yep, more than 1 in this week alone)... but nah... u never know who reads wat in cyberspace...
Bout time to knock off. Kekeke...

The need for supplements - or not?
I noticed that alot of parents give supplements to their kids - mulitvits, scotts emulsion oil, omega fish oil, n lots more (some of which i dun even know it exists).
Since Ashley was a couple of mths' old, at the recommendation of her pd, we gave her Vit C+Zinc and Fish oil. Being a new mom, i didn't think too much, just relied on pd's expertise n gave those supplements. After Ashley started on porridge feed at abt 7mths' old, we kinda stop giving her fish oil. It wasn't done consciously, but more coincidentally as there were less frequent visits to the pd for vaccs n check-ups, so we didn't hv a chance to stock up. Anyway, at the back of my mind, i was thinking that Ashley has fish porridge almost every day, there shd be enough fish oil intake for her (but i didn't actually research on this!).
Thus, left only Vit C+Zinc which we did give her until she was around 1.5 ~ 2yo. At that time, Ashley has already been eating her daily 2 or at least 1 serving of fruits every day, plus yoghurt once or twice a week, so i thought there's really no need for her to take the supplement anymore.
And so, no more supplements for her.
I am sure there's really no need for her to take all those supplements that are being peddled in the pharmacies or even pds. She will get her nutrients from her food intake.
As my mantra goes, to each his own. We parents decide what's best for our kids.

Lunar New Year
I must have had THE MOST BORING CNY in my entire life so far. Notwithstanding the fact tt Ashley was down wif fever+running nose, we didn't go visiting, nobody visited us (except my ils who came when they heard Alan is sick... keke... not ashley? :-p ), didn't get to eat any New Year goodies, didn't gossip at all wif frens/relatives...
Haiz...
Time to do some self-reflection...

Last day of 2008
At the beginning of 2008, a colleague commented tt feng shui says 2008 is gonna be a "bad" year. And true enough, i feel tt 2008 has been beset wif alot of bad news, whether it's political, financial, social and general. At the top of my head, i can already count off Mumbai terrorist bombing, Sichuan earthquake, Taiwan ex-president's scandal, sanlu milk scandal+all its ripple effect, Bangkok unrest, London & US flooding, financial industry meltdown, etc...
On my own personal note, 2008 spells a year of job shakiness. The industry i m in is in a very bad slump which even the much anticipated Beijing Olympics couldn't boost it up. And the year ahead does not look rosie as market is expected to remain sluggish. Internally, i faced alot of struggles, pivoting between staying or leaving.
Toking about family brings a smile to me. This is the year Ashley trods into toddlerhood n wat a joy ride it's been. Everyday (just kidding!), Ashley shows me her new little achievements and antics that usually makes me walk around, beaming like a crazy peacock.
As for my other half, i only gripe tt i wish he would pay more attention to me. I wish he knows tt we need to continually invest time n effort to renew our relationship, to forge a stronger bond to each other. Other than tt, my other half is perfect. He helps around the house and gets involved in looking after Ashley and bonding wif her. Most of all, he puts up wif my short temper. :-p
Looking forward to 2009, i m sure that we, the AJA family, will be able to overcome all challenges that come our way and be bound stronger with love.
Wishing all the best for the year ahead!

Give thanks
Because it's been such a tumultous year, i feel compelled to give thanks this year ( not tt i dun give thanks in the past, but it was all done silently in my head ). But this year, i wanna put it down in writing.
I give thanks for being blessed with Ashley, who lights up my life (even when she's being notti.)
I give thanks for having Alan, who endures my short temper, "sometimes" harsh words, n takes on his fair share without complaints.
I give thanks for my parents, who has learnt to appreciate me.
I give thanks for my ils, who have great forbearance.
I give thanks for my friends, who has shown me love n support all these years.
I give thanks for my colleagues, for all the laughter we have shared over lunch/tea-breaks.
I give thanks for being able to enjoy all these.
Thank you!
P/S: I m just being sentimental, it's got absolutely nothing to do wif age. Anyway, isn't there a saying "Age is just numbers. What's important is the mindset."?

Terror hits home!
I had been blog-hopping these past few days, reading the updates of other pple’s lives. I just simply refused to pen down my thoughts, which have been in a whirlwind, until I chanced upon a blog update titled “Therapeutic Writing”. It’s aptly titled as the author blogs on her feelings of the Singaporean fatality in the Mumbai “911” attack.
Yes, I too am very emotionally affected by this horrific happening. A beautiful life, cruelly n senselessly ended by the terrorist attack. I can’t even imagine the pain n suffering the family, friends and loved ones must be going through now. I deeply n sincerely wish them strength n courage to get through the pain n heart-wrenching loss.
I seem to have been living in a cushioned world for the past 34 years, seemingly in a self-declared safe haven. How ironically naive I have been, when the world is such a dangerous place to live in. Terrorists can strike anywhere n anyplace, to anyone, even unarmed civilians. It could have been anyone. I worry for my daughter. Even now, images of a 2-yo baby boy crying painfully to the loss of his parents who were among the civilian casualities of the terrorist attack flashes through my mind.
Movies are so ridiculously stupid! It downplays the dangers of terrorists, good guys don’t always win, n walk out unharmed. Hostages are not always successfully captured! What about the casualities? Does anyone think about them?
I seem to have been hit and struck wide awake. I count my blessings everyday. I enjoy and treasure all my moments with family, friends and loved ones, most especially my precious darling.
There… this is my version of therapeutic writing… It really helps to pen down these thoughts…

BPA
I just found out that Avent has recently introduced a new line of feeding bottles that's BPA-free. The official statement from Avent is that ALL their products are safe for use (see Avent on BPA).
And even though there's no official word that any of the feeding bottles out there are harmful, it kinda makes me wonder why Avent has come up wif a new product line that's BPA-free.
Since i found out about BPA early this year, i'd made the decision to change all my deardear's feeding bottles to BPA-free types (see archived post on milk bottles).
I am so glad i'd made this decision. Sometimes, we need to make our own decisions based on our own judgements n not wait till some official bodies declares it to be safe/unsafe. IMO, consumers r at the losing end of the battle. Most often times, we r the last to know...
P/S: These r purely my own thoughts are opinions. No offence to anybody.

My temper...
Last week, while i was hvg cofi wif the girls, wat Lijun said struck a chord in me. I too am GUILTY of using harsh tones while toking to my hubby. Actually, i was oblivious to it until a couple of months back when i saw myself on videotape. I was shocked that i sounded so rude to my dear hubby. Honestly, if i had never seen it for myself, i would deny if anyone said so.
It's all done unconsciously. And i think wif the arrival of deardear, i resent that my hubby for not being there while i needed him, for not being as competent as me in taking care of deardear, for not giving my enough TLC, etc etc... when all r added up, the anger accumulates n i become a "nasty" person to my dearest one...
Now that i have been "enlightened", i realised tt at times, i m not a nice person to be wif (in my hubby's eyes)... He has feelings too n i believe he doesn't feel good when i m nasty to him. Can't abuse the love he has for me right? Thus, i m trying my best to be more conscious of his feelings and b nicer to him. Although some times when i m vv tired or stressed out, i can't control my temper n ...
Don't know how successful i m. Maybe shd ask him. He reads my blog anyway, but knowing him, he'll probably say nothing. *.*

Compliments - voluntary or asked for?
This morning, while i was in the office lift, an ex-colleague (a Caucasian guy) complimented me on my outfit. I was rather surprised bcos i don't know him well and was also rather pleased with the compliment (which woman won't be???).
Anyway, the point i want to make is it struck me that my hubby has never complimented me or my outfit voluntarily. By this, i mean to EXCLUDE all the occasions whereby i asked him "nice or not?", bcos for women, when we ask "nice or note?", it doesn't matter wat the answer is, we will usually take it with a pinch of salt). To us women, it's a different thing when compliments are given voluntarily.
That's 1 good thing about Caucasian guys, i think. They r more vocal n r not afraid to communicate their thots across. Something that local Chinese Singaporean guys can improve on...

Want or don't want???
Couple of days back, Alan told me that his mom asked him whether we want to have another baby. Alan told her maybe, we are still thinking about it. Mil then said it's better to have another one. I was quite surprised to hear that bcos I thought she didn't want to look after any more baby.
Hmmm... but i m still in a dilemma whether to have another baby. Lots of concern - finances is the major one. Another worry is to go through the whole cycle again, not the pregnancy cycle, but the 1st year cycle. Those who know me will know that I had a real tough 1st to 4th months' after giving birth to Ashley. I shudder even now when i think back.
Another concern that I have is whether i will grow fat... hahaha... vainpot! that's me!!

Getting philosophical again...
Since the last couple of years, there have been repeated news reports of healthy and fit people collapsing and pass away suddenly. Some have even just passed their health check-ups wif flying colours...
Start me wondering why this happens... is it bcos of all the chemicals in the food we eat? cloned meat? fake meat? stressful lifestyle?
Sometimes, when i do jogging on the treadmill, i oso think whether i will just collapse n die... Nothing must happen to me bcos I still want to see my deardear grow up.
I'm glad that Alan heeds my advice to go for health check-ups as he has slight hypertension. Also, as his work is rather stressful at times, n may hv to go n overseas trips quite often.
I am the guilty one, who doesn't heed my own advice... haiz...

food for thot...
hmmm... hua lee said something which set me thinking... He said tt the way he saw me with Ashley last Saturday, it appears tt Ashley is all-important to me, n Alan is "can have-can don't have"... is tt really true??? ... hmm...
i told Alan last nite, n he replied me "even b4 Ashley, u oso treat me like tt "can have-can don't have"... he looked at me then, n grinned in a sly manner... KNS! i laughed too...
anyway, i don't think tt's true la huh??? bcos Alan is still very important to me...
2nd thing, hua lee said he thinks i will be the type who won't beat my child... let's c huh? cos i myself oso not sure, let's wait n c till Ashley goes into the "Terrible Two" phase...
